CONGRATULATIONS!
You have learned and begun to practice the basics of meditation.
In many ways the 'basics' of meditation are the essentials and they are all you need. You're set!
Sometimes meditation feels too simple - I mean I'm just sitting here following my breath and naming what comes up.... this is it?
Simple...not Easy
But, as you have probably noticed in your sits, simple is not the same as easy. Paying attention to your inner experience (without judging it!) can be very hard to do.
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
Practice is the next step. And it goes on forever! Sit as close to everyday as you can - it makes a difference!
And even if you haven't 'sat' once in the last 2 weeks ......( I know! It happens!)
...... It's OK - no one is keeping score.
Start Again.
That's all you have to do. Over and over again.
Help Yourself
Keep learning (and practicing) by looking into local courses or classes. Or find a group to sit with on a regular basis. Going on a Meditation Retreat is another way to help solidify your new skills.
MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) is a standardized world wide course that is probably taught near you if you are in a urban center of any size. Similar and equally excellent courses may not be called MBSR but teach similar content.
There are many apps that you can use that remind you to pause in your day and practice: Headspace, Calm and Insight Timer are popular ones.
Now….practice. You are a Meditator!
Be. With. What. Is. ….and Breathe.
With Pause and Kindness,
Dr. Trish
